ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER

The essential characteristic of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a persistent level of inattentiveness and/or hyperactivity, more frequent and more severe than the level of other individuals of the same social and cultural level. For correct diagnosis, some of the symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity must have been present before the age of seven, although many people are only diagnosed for inattentiveness as adults, when social, academic and professional demands increase.

Individuals suffering from this disorder do not pay great attention to detail or have difficulty in paying attention, making mistakes due to lack of care with school work or professional tasks. The work they do is often confused, careless and superficial.

Around 60-70% of patients maintain a level of inattentiveness that accompanies them into adult life, where the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has become more frequent.

ADHD affects children and may persist into adult life.  We can diagnose this disorder in all age groups using scales for adults and scales that may be filled out by the parents of children from seven years of age on.
